Happy Sunday Everyone!

I know last week, I was a slacker and there was no Weekly One More.  Sorry folks, but there has been a lot going on in my life lately.  In fact, this has inspired today’s post.  This journey is as much mental as it is physical.   For me, I have had so many issues with body image  and been so negative about my weight for so long, it became who I was.   I would say I hated the way I look, I hated what I was doing to myself, but wouldn’t get off my ass to actually do something.  I would get going good for 2 months, then something would happen and I would allow it to derail me.

I am a very emotional person.  It is something I am working on, I don’t mean being emotional, but rather how I handle my emotions.  Instead of being a blubbering mess when the shit hits the fan, I am trying to calm myself down and focus on the positives.  I think I am getting better at this.  I hope anyways.

Recently  different things happened that made me really start thinking about things and putting things into perspective.

A dear friend of mine lost her grandmother last week, it broke my heart. She was devoted to her grandmother as I am to my grandparents.    My grandparents turned 89 and 90 years old and celebrated their 66 th wedding anniversary the past few weeks.  How Lucky am I ? Seriously?  I am so blessed.  For the past few years, my grandmother has decided that she wanted steaks to celebrate.  This is New England, its a bit snowy in the winter.  But she doesn’t care, she goes and gets a steak for everyone and we cook them up on the grill.  Winter Cookout to celebrate their birthdays and anniversary.  My Gram is a fierce woman.  Strong  and knows what she wants.  If she wants a steak on the grill at her house in the winter, you are damn right she is gonna get it.  My family is so blessed they are still here and even more so that they still have their whits about them.  I cherish them every moment of every day.

My mother’s health issues have created an issue again. I know I have talked about them here before.  My mother has been through so much and it pains me so much to see her go through anything else.  I am at the point where I am not upset, but angry .  I struggle with the why.  Why can’t she just be healthy and do what she wants to do?  Why?  GOD, I get so pissed.  But, she is here .  She is a crazy goof ball and I cherish her every moment of every day.

Some of our very dear friends are going through some things right now, and while I won’t elaborate for sake of their privacy, I ask that you send your prayers their way.  Good friends are hard to find and I cherish mine every moment of every day.

No matter what your journey is, you cannot get their without a support system and without people by your side.   Let them know you care about them and the difference they make in your life.  Give them a shout out.  Give them a hug.  Let them know you care.

I can only hope that you all are lucky enough to have people around you that rock as much as my people do.  And if you don’t, you know what? I will be your people.  Here to support and encourage .

I am who I am because of all of these people.  And honestly, I would love to name them all, but that would take a while, lol.  You all know who you are.  I cherish you all.

Still Here!

I’m still here folks! Still trotting along.  Still swimming.

It’s been a hectic week.  Mother Nature is rearing her ugly head here in the Northeast this week.  So, I was only able to get 2 workouts in this week – ugh.

So – this is how I did this week”


10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 squat cleans

1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10 ring dips

I think we had 20 – 25 minutes to do this.  No one finished it.  You did the clean, then the dips.  My total was 58 reps.

But, here is the best part – I totally had a PR! I did my squat clean with 75 lbs!!!  I was super excited.  I didn’t care that I only got through half of the workout.  It is this stuff that means so much.  Plus, my squats are so much better… I know, I know. Who’d thunk? LOL  The ring dips, those are tough, man.  I used a green band.  Even though there were only 2 elements, this was a tough workout.  It always seems its the only ones that don’t look too bad, that end up kicking your ass.

5 Wall Climbs

10 Step Ups – 12 ” box with 15lb and 35 lb plate / 30 lb DB

Boy oh boy, Wall Climbs.  I stink at these, yes, I can get up to the wall, but getting my body close to the wall, ugh.  Coach Jane was trying to help me.  She told me , “Once you get up, just slide your hands back.” Cha! Jane does always know how to push me the right way, but trying to ” slide” over 230 lbs on your hands, just ain’t happening. I tried.  I did , but felt like I was going to snap my arms in half.  Another goal to push for.

The step ups, I went for a higher step .  so now I am between the 12″ and the 18″. I am guessing 16″?? I started with 35 lbs like I have been using, but Coach Jane suggested going to 30 lbs so I can work on the higher step.  I was not easy but I did it.

V ups- or shin ups as I call them, since I cannot hit my toes yet, getting closer though.

This was a hard workout. I enjoyed it!


Due to mother nature being an asshole here lately, I have missed a class the past 2 weeks. She needs to cut the shit.  I have a big weekend next weekend, I want to look and feel good!   I am going to start doing things at home to keep myself in check, like sit ups, vups, push ups, squats.  I have got to keep swimming!

The Weekly One More 2/2/14

How did you all do last week on your One More? I did pretty darn good!


This week my One More is Go Farther!

So, what do I mean?

For example: Saturday I ran, 1.3 miles.  My goal when I ran Sunday – was to go farther.  And I did :    1.4 miles!

So, if you walk 1 mile, go for 1.25 miles, if you swim 200 m, go for 300 m, if you run 3 miles, go for 3.5 miles.


You can do it! Push yourself that extra step!


Phoenix Rising

Some of you may recall a few weeks ago, I was a bit down about my running.  Set me on Fire.   And, as you may recall, I am a Phoenix, I am going to rise and be even more awesome than before. 🙂

So, yesterday was another balmy 40 degrees here in Massachusetts, so I decided, I needed to go for a run.  I need to work on my running.  So, what the heck, right? Lets do it.

I put out the Facebook word to see if anyone wanted to go for a run – my brother in law, JR, answered the call.  I gotta hand it to him, he was a great running partner, keeping me going and keeping me above my pace, without me even realizing it.  My goal was to get at least a mile since I have not run that far in a while.  I usually run at 15 min mile.  Yesterday, I did 1.34 miles in 18:50 – did a 14 min/mile!  Shaved a minute off my pace! So happy about that.  There are quite a few runs I want to do this year, so I need to work on this.

When I put the call out to see if anyone wanted to run, one of my pals from the gym piped in and suggested running today = so , you guessed it.  We are going to run the lake in Wakefield.  Hoping I can make at least 2 miles, but with a buddy, I might just be able to do the whole thing 🙂

Meg vs Jackie

For those that are familiar with Cross Fit, you know about the Cross Fit benchmark WOD’s. For those unfamiliar , Cross Fit has benchmark workouts named after heroes and women . Theses are some of the hardest workouts but they are great because they come around every so often and you can judge your progress .


Wednesday we did “Jackie”.  Jackie is :

1000 m row
50 Thrusters 45 lbs
30 pull-ups – double green bands

My time was 19:53 .

I know , not a great time but I was super happy with my performance .  I was happy because it was the first time that I did a workout with high reps and was able to do the pullups.  Usually in these instances, I have to resort to ring rows. I took my time, doing 5 at a time and it felt great when I was done!


Can’t wait to see what this week has instore!
