A Week of Non Scale Victories!

nonscale

Last week was one of the best I have had in a while.  It seems like everything is falling into place.

Lots of Non – Scale victories to share!

1st – My pants are bigger! I have to keep pulling my pants up ! Silly , but it is so cool.  I swear its because of my Plexus Tri-plex . A big thing with Plexus is a healthy gut.  I have been taking the probiotic and biocleanse, as well as my Plexus slim pink drink.  I think its a combo of that and the fact that I am just not as hungry anymore. I am not ravenous. Which leads me to my 2nd victory…

2nd – I always finish my food – get every last bite – go in for seconds – always finish that last bite of my burrito.  Not anymore, I just can’t .  I have NO DESIRE to continue the face stuffing.  AND ITS FREAKING AWESOME!!!  I had trouble finishing chicken fingers and french fries this week.  Now, granted not the most healthy meal, but I have ordered a side of french fries before on top of the fries that come with the food. And I couldn’t even finish it!

3rd – I resisted a full piece of cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory.  Yes, I can’t believe it either. I usually get a full piece for myself .  This time, I shared with my daughter and even then could not eat half.  THIS IS GINORMOUS FOR ME.

4th – I got into a pair of jeans I have not been able to get into for months.  And it didn’t require acrobatics to zip them up ! This my friends was such a great feeling.

I also got back into the gym this week! Took it easy but I got in there and moved the best I could!

It was Weightlifting Wednesday.  We started with dead lifts. 3-3-3-3-3.  I warmed up with 85 lbs. I so badly want to beat my 215 lb dead lift, but I have to work back up to it, its gonna be a while.   😦

I started with 85lb as my warm up , then did 105 lb, 135 lb, 145 lb, 150 lb, 155 lb was my final.  Still have such a ways to go.  But I love them dead lifts, so I will keep at it!

Next up was supposed to be goblet squats, but given my knee situation, I did bench squats instead as part of the accessory work. I gotta say, the bending didn’t bother me nearly as bad as I thought it was going to . It was getting up off the ground that was the struggle.

Here is the accessory work :

3 rounds

5×8 bench squats

20 band walk – left and right

10 reverse lateral raises

30 sec dead bug hold

10 skull crushers

Like I said, the hardest part was getting up off the ground after the dead bug and the skull crushers.

Looking forward to what the next week will bring!

Any non – scale victories to share? I’d love to hear about them!

A Most Excellent Week Indeed

Happy Saturday Everyone!

I gotta say, I have really had such a great week, all around.

Back in the gym 3 nights this week.  Sore today from it , but its the good sore 🙂  Not the bad sore I have been experiencing the last year or so .

Wednesday was Lift Day, as you know – MY FAVORITE! And it was dead lifts!!! I was very happy with how I did , but it just drove home that I am starting over and I have to let the numbers and how I used to be able to do things, go. And I used to get really frustrated with that, but now, I am in a much better place with it.  Would I have loved to go in and rock a 220 lb Deadlift smashing my goal? Of course, but I was very happy I made it up to 95 lbs.

Starting over and that’s okay.

Here is how I did Wednesday :

5 sets 10 reps sit to stand squats on low box – yes, folks – we are reduced to squatting on a box.  But it is totally okay, cause honestly the struggle with it was REAL.  I was dying. So, it is most definitely a good place to start.

Onto dead lifts :

10 @55lbs

8 @65 lbs

6 @75lbs

4 @85lbs

2 @95lbs!

Then there was 3 rounds of accessory work :

10 trx rows

10 resistance band pulls – supposed to be bench dips but i had a hard time with that

Planks! i did about 20 seconds on each one

Here is how I did Thursday :

I got some new sneakers for the gym, that did not work out so well. They were too big and my feet were literally coming out of them while rowing. So the rest of the workout was barefoot.  Never stop Swimming!

IMG_4092

4 rounds

500 m row

17 TRX lunges

17 push ups

17 v ups ( or what ever you call my version, lol, to the knee)

I finished in 30:54 , cap was 35:00 so I was really happy that I got it done in time, even modified.

Excited to go back next week.  This is what I need, I just need to do my part and actually go.

This week – I am happy to report that I have done awesome with my no soda, no bread , no pasta changes.  It may not seem big to some people, but believe me, It is HUGE for me.

Overall, things are pretty great at the moment.  I kept on swimming, and I will continue to swim.  Hope you do too, no matter what the situation.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Chips and Dead Lifts

First, I gotta say, tonight was fantabulous.  Simply fantabulous.

I want to first go over ” chips”.  In my gym, we use chips to keep track of our rounds.  Not sure if every gym does this, but we do.  For me, its not about how many chips are there, the chips themselves represent accomplishment.  On every level.  And I suppose that yes, I  can count to 5 all by myself and keep track on my own, but what fun is that?  It is the best feeling to see all the chips you took moved from the start pile to the finish.  Its symbolic.  I look forward to seeing those chips go from pile to pile.  Now granted, for me, usually I am over confident and not all my chips move.  Some times its only a few.  But it truly is what they represent that is the point.

Here is a pic of tonights chips :

5 Chips = 5 Rounds = Happy Meg

5 Chips = 5 Rounds = Happy Meg

We had a 10 minute WOD = 5 rounds:

6 Alternating DB snatches – went up to 40 lbs on this. You guessed – PR BABY!

8 Hands release push ups

12 V ups

Time 9:30

I LOVE SNATCHES.  Go ahead and get your dirty little snickers out of the way, yes, its funny…  But I love barbell snatches, Dumb bell snatches, Kettle Bell snatches.  I have always had an easier time with the move, so I think that is why I  have always enjoyed them.

The WOD was after the strength portion of the evening, which was Deadlifts.

Tonight my friends, was an epic night for yours truly.  I crushed a goal.  Crushed.  Exceeded.  Boom.  Bang.  That just happened!

Some of you may have read my post back from January regarding doing the Crossfit Total WOD , where I dead lifted 210 lbs.  I did the 210 and I clearly remember the struggle to get to 215.  I couldn’t get the bar off the ground for 1 rep.  I remember the defeat I felt.  I was still super proud I got to the 210 but Man, I wanted the 215.

Guess what kids?  I DID IT!!!! I DID 215 LBS!!! NOT JUST 1 REP BUT 4 TOTAL!!! yeah, yeah, I know not that many but Oh My Freaking God, does it feel AWESOME!!!!

Here is a pic of the big moment.

215 Lbs Baby!!!

Not a pretty pic, but such a pretty feeling!

I understand these photos are not flattering by any way shape or form, and I will proudly say, ” I DO NOT CARE”

These photos represent a goal.  A goal I crushed.  A new goal being created.  And I suppose I could go the way of the main stream and  photoshop my big ol belly from hanging over the bar. But Fuck that, I earned this shit. The belly will go down, And I will continue to rise and be strong.

This is what a real person with real goals and real struggles and real rolls and real obesity looks like.  She ain’t pretty, but she is damn fantastic.

I am a work in progress and I am damn happy with the way I am going.

I do have to give a big shot out to my coach Jane who was such a pusher and so awesome when I asked her to take my picture.

I feel like my train is getting back on her tracks and things are getting to be where they need to be for me.  Every day, I tell myself ” Just Keep Swimming”  I keep going and I don’t stop.  Nothing worth fighting for was ever earned easily.

So , get out there and be your own hero. Put on your cape, Put on your rope, grab your cuffs, get your shield, hop in your Batmobile and get going.

Own the day, Seize the Day, Claim the Day.

I would to see pictures of you folks and your PR’s!  If you would like to share, send them to lessthighsmorethunder@gmail.com.

Ready for the next phase!

So, its no secret that your truly does not have the best eating habits. I mean I am seriously a baby about it. I don’t like fruits and veggies. Spaghetti squash, yummo, but it has spaghetti in the name, lol.  And potatoes – you know , yummo!  But, the sad reality is , my diet of pasta and carbs, has got to hit the road. The delicious, delicious, delicious, road.    I need to take my fitness to the next level and now its time to get this gal’s nutrition in order.

My plan is to start slow, but making smoothies and sneaking things into my foods I like.  And , cutting down the carbs.  I can’t go completely cold turkey. For starters, I will be replacing the pasta with spaghetti squash.  Gonna be a smoothie queen too.

I know, most of you are like, ya, whatever, big shit, you’re gonna eat good, why is that a big deal?  It is to me.  And I am sure there is someone else out there that feels this way too.  Once I get into the swing of it, I will be looking for recipes and I will be sharing recipes too!

Now , onto the past week!

Monday

Monday I did 14.4 , well, what I could of 14.4, which was only the 60 calorie row.  It is what it is.

We did Dead lifts.  Can I just say how much I love working with the barbells? SO much fun! I think I love that I feel strong when we use them, I know silly, but so am I ! Ha!

Here is how I did:

135 lbs x3

155 x 2

175 x2

185×2

195 x2

200×2

I was really happy with this.  Last time we went heavy, I got up to 210 lbs, but it was just for 1 rep and trying to go to 215 was really hard. So, the fact I was able to do 2 x 200 lbs, super happy with.

From there, we did 30 sec on, 15 sec off 4 rounds in a circuit.

35 Lb KB goblet squats

HR Pushups

V ups

Ring Rows

I felt it was a good night 🙂

Thursday

Whoa Nelly, still feeling the affects of The WOD.

25 minutes – 2 rounds

50 OH walking lunges with 25 lb plate – ouch!

25 Hollow Rocks

50 Jumping Pull ups

25 KB swings – 44lbs

50 Tuck Jumps

25 Supermans

50 OH walking lunges with 25 lb plate

25 Hollow Rocks

30 jumping pull ups – this is as far as I got.  Not the 2 rounds I wanted, but definitely a PR to get through the 2 sets of walking lunges for 100 total! I am soooo happy with that.  Lunges have always been a struggle .  I clearly remember last time we did these like this and it really was a WOD killer for me.  So while I didn’t finish the workout, I had such a positive outcome.

It used to really bother me when I didn’t finish, now , not so much, but I think its because I have advanced so much, I am happy just to PR or do better than I did in some way shape or form.

Now, this philosophy is not going to work on Monday. I take on 14.5 , Its for time, so I have to finish.  I checked out the pros times – all in the under 10 range. So that is so not happening.  I am really hoping to be done under 1/2 hr or under 1 hr.   The thrusters are going to kill me if the burpees don’t kill me first.  You know me and burpees.  Sweet Baby Jesus!  You are going to hear ” Just Keep Swimming” alot during that one fo sho.  Wish me Luck!

Check back later in the week for how I did.  Hopefully I don’t myself down!

Great Week!

Sorry I haven’t posted this week folks! I am back in the full swing of classes and work has been super busy.  So, I get home and crash, lol.

This week I really enjoyed the WOD’s.  Here is how I did:

Monday

OH Squat practice  30 lbs – Ugh, these are not easy.

Chin Up Practice – green and tan band 4×5 reps.  This gave me hope for my pull ups. I can so do the Chin Ups more easier than Pull Ups, I don’t quiet understand why, but I will take it.  I was able to get my chin over the bar for every rep.

AMRAP 8 minutes

6 Goblet Squats – 44 lbs KB

12 V Ups

I got 6 rounds! I was shocked as shit at that.

Wednesday

10 Ring Dips – green band

20 Burpee Pull Ups – I can’t do these without changing it to jumping pull ups, so we changed it to 20 Burpees and 20 Pull Ups.  My Burpees still suck, but not as bad.  I am still the slowest but my slow is getting better.  My Pull Ups need work though.

30 Wall Balls – 10 lbs MB

40 Double Unders

Time 19:09

Thursday

Cross Fit Total WOD

I loved this one! I really enjoy the barbells and I want to be stronger.  But this was really fun, testing your limits and seeing how heavy you can go.  We partnered up, I was with Nicole.  She was a great partner.  Here is how I did:

Back Squat – 130 lbs

Press – 55 lbs – who Nelly is that one hard!

Dead lift – 210 lbs !!!!!  SOOOO Proud of that!

I am so proud of myself for the 210 dead lift.  So, of course, I am telling people about it.  And the responses have mainly been ” Better be careful about your back” ” thats a lot of weight, do you think you should do that?”   WHAT THE EVER LIVING FRACK?!?!?   Why do people think that I was just walking along, minding my business, saw a barbell on the ground and was like ” Hey there, let me try to pick you up, with no training, no coaching, just let me grab it?”  UGH! Everyone that knows me and their brother knows I have been doing Cross Fit for almost a year now, so of course, I know the proper way to do it, and my coaches are right there.  It just stinks cause I am so proud of this and people will take any chance they get to kick you down.

And for the record, I used to have back problems, bad sciatica.  Haven’t had it for years, but here  and there twinges and pains.  Since I started this – I have had no back problems! So there , mo fo’s!

I have come such a far way, and I have so far to go, but damn, its exciting! I am so energized to keep this going.

My weight has plateaued at the moment, but honestly, I am not letting that keep me down, I just gotta keep going. I gotta keep swimming!

Doing good on my Weekly One More too! had some eggplant yesterday!

This Phoenix is rising bitches! Get Ready!

Great Weekend!

images-6

I had a real great weekend!  For starters, I had class Saturday morning.  Felt good.   Then Saturday night, we had a party for my husbands birthday. Today, my son was in another parade, so we went to that. So, it was busy.

Saturdays workout was 3 mini work outs in 1.  Each workout we had 8 minutes to complete as many rounds as possible. Here is how I did:

It was a partner WOD, but since there was an odd number of people in class, I got to do it on my own, which is perfect for me.  I hate feeling like I am dragging my partner down.

#1. 10 dead lifts at 95 lbs, 20 mountain climbers – going into it, I felt pretty good about this one, I have done dead lifts at this weight before.  Mountain Climbers, as long as there is a good beat to do them to, they are not so bad.  The goal was to get as many rounds as possible, so I pushed it.  I completed 6 rounds in the 8 minutes.

#2. 10 ring rows, 10 broad jumps  – Ring rows always get me, I can do 3 or 4, then I need to stop and regroup, then 3 or 4 more. I have to do them in small sets, which is ok, but a pain in the butt and takes me forever.  The broad jumps, those were not too bad.  Kinda fun jumping around 🙂 I completed 5 rounds in the 8 minutes.

#3. 10 push ups, 10 slam balls at 20 lbs – At this point, my arms were ready to fall off. I had to do my push ups on my knees 😦  . I was ready to fall over by the end of the 8 minutes. I completed 4 rounds in the 8 minutes.

All in all, I was pleased with most of my performance.

I have to just keep chipping away at everything, it is working for me so far.  Just Keep Swimming!!!!

Today is my hubby’s birthday.   We had a bunch of friends and family over last night for a poker party.  I am not going to lie – I freakin loved hearing how good I looked.  I had not seen some of these folks in  a  few months, so to hear this from my near and dear – well, it was awesome! I was on cloud nine!  Now, I did make a whole bunch of food and of course it was not the most health concious food, but boy o boy was it yummo. I made sure not to stuff my face too much.  Which is good for me, cause usually when we have the get together’s, I always have a ton of food and make myself 3 or 4 plates. So, the fact I limited myself, was a victory .

Today we also went to the Merrimac Santa Parade to see my son Tyler march with his marching band. It was raining, but I was so proud to see him marching in his uniform.  I was one proud mama.  Its the little things that make everything worth wild.

A Week of Highs and Lows

Things are returning to their normal schedule here in our household.  Back to my normal schedule for classes.  Worked out Monday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.  Mondays work out was tough, but I did it.  I am still having trouble with my squats and doing them properly,  attributed to my tight quads I suppose.  I had to resort to a rolling against a yoga ball on the wall to get them done properly, which I will admit, was pretty fun.

Wednesday we did planks.  As you can imagine with this hefty body, planks suck.  I can barely do them for 30 seconds, let alone the minute we had to do.  I know, as you are reading this, you are probably like ,its just a minute, no biggie.  Well, my friends – TRY IT.  It is not so easy.  So, of course I am struggling.  We had to do (3) sets of 1 minute planks.  First one, I think I held for about 30 seconds and had to drop.  Which is frustrating as hell to me.  Second set, my coach, Holly, said I want you to go for 40 seconds.  So we begin, and I was able to do at least 40 seconds before dropping.  Then, the 3rd set. We get up and she starts going ” you’re gonna do it Meg! Don’t you drop! You got it! Don’t drop Meg! Don’t drop! ” And I didn’t!!!!!! I held on by the grace of God for the whole minute!!!!!

Meg's Plank

After the planks, we had Kettle Bells swings and box jumps. I love box jumps. Now that I can do them, I really enjoy them. Kettle Bells on the other hand, not so much.  Plus, this night my weight was increased. I usually do the 26 lb and I was moved up to 36 lb.  My heaviest ever. Where I was standing in the gym, I was facing a window and since it was getting dark, I could see my reflection really well, like a mirror. It was horrible.  I thought, ” How motivating it would be” and instead, I saw this gross blob trying to exercise.  Sweet Baby Jesus, do I make some ugly ass faces when working out.  I suppose we all kinda do, but you just never see your self.  In my head I guess I would see myself as stronger and instead, I was just disgusting.  At least, I felt like I was.  Ugh.

Then we come to Thursday. We had dead lifts and 400 m runs.  I really wasn’t too worried about the runs since I have done the mile without stopping, I figured a few 400’s I could do. Slow of course , but doable.  We worked on our dead lifts first, I was able to get up to 120 lbs.  My heaviest yet! I was pretty happy with that.  Then in the WOD, we did lighter dead lifts, then the runs.  I was down to 95 lbs, we had to do 10 dead lifts, then run 400.  First set, I could do, slow, but not too bad.  Second set – forget about it.  Dead lifts went ok, but the running sucked – badly.  I couldn’t do it without walking. My legs were killing me.  I was so damn pissed. Incensed really.  I told myself, I am doing the next set and I will do the run with out stopping.  My body had other plans, I had walk even more then the third set.  I was furious! What the hell was going on?!?! I have not worked so hard to complete these to fail now.  So, of course, I was voicing my frustration to my coach, Jane.  And her with all her brilliance – made me see the light.  She said that I had lifted more than ever before and that put some more strain on my body. I essentially sacrificed my run for my lift.  But since it was a victory lift, it was ok.  Take the good with the bad.  So yes, I was pissed, but by the end of class, I was feeling better about my accomplishment of the night.   Thanks for the pep talk Jane!

I am signed up for 5 classes next week.  Let see how I do!
